Course Description
Examination of Electromagnetic theory. Light and photons. Interaction of Electromagnetic Radiation and Matter. Optical properties of metals and dielectric materials.
Refraction. Scattering. Fresnel Equations. Atmospheric Optics. Refraction of Light in Spherical Surface. Transfer Matrices and Jones Matrices.
Polarization, polarizers, dichroism, birefringence, optical activity. Faraday, Kerr and Pockels effects. Mathematical description of polarization.
Interference of optical waves. Interferometers: Mickelson, Mach ¬- Zehnder, Sagnac, Fabry-Perot, Twyman-Green. Applications.
