The postgraduate specialization <<Electronics and Information Processing>> is specialization of the postgraduate program of Physics Department entitled as “Applied Physics Studies in Atmospheric Sciences and Electronics”.
This specialization operated as a distinct Interdepartmental postgraduate degree program from the academic season of 2002-2003 with the identical name and content. The initiative for the foundation of this specialization that breaks new ground in signal processing and machine learning belongs to the retired professor of our laboratory Spyros Fotopoulos.
The postgraduate specialization “Electronics and Information Processing” has a technological direction and object on the acquisition and analysis of physical signals as well as the processing of the information that they contain. At the same time, it specializes in topics such as pattern recognition, signal detection theory, decision theory, and machine learning, as well as the broad field of remote sensing. Additionally, students can focus on topics in Medical Physics, microcontrollers, and special-purpose digital circuits.
Furthermore, the postgraduate students gain large fluency in programming techniques, working with MATLAB and other programming languages (C++ and Pythons)
Also, purpose of the specialization is to offer the ability to the students to continue their studies on PhD level on the scientific fields of Signal/Image Processing and Computer Vision.
During the 20 years of continuously operation the specialization has offered high level of knowledge in more than 150 graduates and the most of them are working in computer vision companies worldwide, they have founded their companies, or they have continued in research-academic careers.
